A break-and-enter and a fire at a New Westminster home are being investigated as targeted incidents, police say.
The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) responded to a report of a break-and-enter at a home near York Street and East Eighth Avenue in the Massey Heights neighbourhood on Oct. 4.
At 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 5, New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services responded to the same home after reports of a residential fire.
According to NWPD, investigators believe the two incidents are connected. The investigation is in its early stages and police are working to determine how the incidents are related.

The investigation is in its early stages and police are working to figure out how they are related.
The residents were not home when the fire broke out and there were no injuries in relation to the fire.
The house was significantly damaged by the fire, with a hole in the roof visible from the street and multiple windows broken.
“Investigators are exploring the nexus between the break and enter reported the previous day and the fire that occurred early the next morning,” stated Sgt. Andrew Leaver, Media Relations Officer.
“At this stage, we believe both incidents were targeted rather than random. There is currently no indication of an ongoing risk to the public, and investigators are continuing to gather evidence and speak with witnesses to better understand the circumstances surrounding both incidents.”
