Arrest and charges laid in 2 alleged Vancouver break-ins

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says charges have been laid against a suspect in two alleged house break-ins in South Vancouver on Thursday morning.

Daryl Silas Hunt, 64, is facing charges of one count of attempted break and enter and one count of break and enter.

Around 9:45 a.m., police report that a man allegedly took a screen off a window in order to gain access to a house near East 49th Avenue and McKinnon Street. The resident of the house heard noises and confronted the man. He left without stealing any property.

About half an hour later, a man, who the VPD say matched the same description as the man in the first break-in, broke a window to get inside a home near West 48th Avenue and Ontario Street. He allegedly stole multiple items.

The VPD deployed its Canine Unit and officers were able to locate and arrest a man fitting the description of the break-in suspect.

Police say that Hunt may be responsible for more break-ins in Vancouver.

Hunt is currently in custody until his next court appearance on Oct. 15.
