A police involved shooting in Burnaby Sunday morning is now being investigated by the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO).
Around 10:15 a.m., Burnaby RCMP were called to a report of a disturbance at an apartment building on Kingsway, say the IIO.
Police told the IIO that when they arrived a man was armed with an edged weapon when he approached them.
One officer fired their gun, hitting the man, reported RCMP.
BC Emergency Health Services provided first aid before transporting the man to hospital.
By Sunday evening, the IIO had assumed the investigation into the RCMP officer’s actions.
