A woman living in East Vancouver woke up to a terrifying situation early Wednesday morning.
She was in her home, located near Atlin Street and East 29th Avenue, when she was roused from sleep shortly before 4 a.m. and discovered an unknown man in her bedroom going through her personal belongings, police say.
“The woman pretended to be asleep until the man left the room, then locked her bedroom door and called the Vancouver Police Department,” the VPD said in a news release.
“She reported that she lived with roommates and believed the man was still inside the home.”
When officers arrived, they found the man on the second floor of the house.
“When they attempted to speak with him, he ran into a nearby bedroom,” the VPD said.
“The officers observed him attempting to jump out of the window, and he was then taken into custody.”
At first, the man refused to identify himself, officers say, but they located his ID and have confirmed his identity.
Police say 48-year-old Daniel Joseph Campbell, a resident of New Mexico, has been charged with one count of break and enter and one count of obstructing a peace officer.
He remains in custody, the VPD says.
