A seven-year-old girl was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in the Grandview-Woodland area of East Vancouver Thursday morning, police say.
Officers were in the area of East Pender Street and Victoria drive when they witnessed the child trying to cross the street mid-block between parked vehicles, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says.
“The child ran into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle travelling at approximately 20 km/h,” the VPD said.
“The driver was unable to see the child before she entered the roadway.”
Police say she had been trying to reach her parents’ vehicle across the street.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated, the VPD says.
The girl suffered minor injuries and has since been released from hospital.
