A man who moved to Vancouver after obtaining statutory release in Alberta in December has been rearrested by police after what officials are calling an “incident” in the Downtown Eastside on Sunday.
In a statement on Monday, the Vancouver Police Department says a Canada-wide warrant was issued on Sunday night for Tyler Gordon Strathdee following a criminal investigation.

The 36-year-old is currently serving an 11-year sentence for violent crimes including sexual assault and manslaughter in Alberta. When Strathdee was released, the VPD issued a public warning saying they believed he posed a high risk of committing more physical and sexual violence.
Under his release conditions, Strathdee was prohibited from using drugs and alcohol and contacting sex workers. He was also required to report any relationships with women.
Speaking to 1130 NewsRadio, Sgt. Steve Addison shared that while Strathdee remains in custody, no new charges have been laid.
“I can’t get into the details of that incident because it’s still under investigation, and charges have not been laid in that incident,” he said.
“But what I can tell you is that as a result of the information we obtained during that investigation and the evidence that we obtained during that investigation, we notified the national monitoring center, which issued a Canada-wide warrant for strategies arrest.
“We’re continuing to investigate a separate incident that occurred in the downtown East side, but we’re limited in the amount of information we’re able to provide about that separate incident,” Addison explained.
