Authorities searching for man near Port Haney Wharf waters

The Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a marine incident near the Port Haney Wharf in Maple Ridge on Monday.

It was reported that a man may have fallen into the Fraser River at this location and did not resurface.

Mounties say that they arrived at the scene around 10:35 a.m.

“Officers searched the surrounding area and did not observe anyone in distress in the water or surfacing on the waterline,” police said in a written statement.

Mounties are currently still in the area, continuing their search with a police boat.

Additionally, the BC RCMP Air Services, Maple Ridge Fire & Rescue Services, and BC Emergency Health Services are providing assistance.

Police add that the Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue and the BC RCMP Underwater Recovery Team have been notified as well.

As part of the search efforts, the roadway towards Port Haney Wharf is closed off to the public.

Investigators are now asking witnesses who have not talked to police yet to contact the Maple Ridge RCMP at 604-463-6251.
