Shortly after 9 a.m., VPD officers responded to a call at a home near East Pender Street and Renfrew Street, where they found the 16-year-old deceased.
Police say they are still investigating the cause of her death.
VPD Sgt. Steve Addison tells 1130 NewsRadio that the case is currently being treated as a sudden death
“It would be speculative and, quite frankly, it wouldn’t be irresponsible at this stage of the investigation to suggest what the cause of this young lady’s death was,” Addison said.
“Needless to say, we have got more work to do to understand what her cause of death was and furthermore, to determine whether or not criminality was a factor in her death.”
VPD’s Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Unit took over the investigation.
“There are more questions than answers. There’s just a lot that we don’t know, and that’s simply by the nature of it the so early in this investigation,” Addison said.
“We are conducting an investigation, and we have investigators who are at the scene at the house where she was found, and they are collecting evidence to learn more about what happened and to determine whether or not her death was the result of a crime and whether further criminal investigation is required.”
He adds that nobody has been arrested in connection with the death so far.
The VPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 604-717-2500.
