Police say a driver in a New Westminster parking lot struck and seriously injured a pedestrian Sunday afternoon.

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says the victim was walking through the Costco lot on Queensborough’s Tanaka Court near Gifford Street around 1:45 p.m., when the collision happened.

“Responding officers observed a woman had sustained serious injuries as a result,” said an NWPD statement Monday.

It says officers provided first aid until paramedics could transfer the victim to hospital.

The driver involved reportedly stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, but police are now seeking more witnesses.

“This was a busy parking lot and we believe there may be people who saw what happened who have not spoken to police,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver.
