Deputy Fire Chief Ian Hetherington says firefighters were met by workers who reported that the cause was a piece of machinery inside.
Hetherington elaborated that the machinery was “related to a heat exchanger, so it would be a mechanical part of the building.”
Crews were still on scene as of noon Tuesday, but Hetherington says the fire was extinguished and not likely to spread. He says no one was reported injured.
The Metro Vancouver Regional District said it was aware of the fire and monitoring local air quality.
The district maintains an online map showing the Air Quality Health Index over the region. No warnings have been issued as a result of the fire.
