Firefighters say the explosion came from the house’s basement.

“We got called out for a building collapse, which turned out to be an explosion and fire in the basement,” said Assistant Chief Pierre Morin.

Once crews turned off water and power, and the building was deemed safe, they entered and extinguished the fire.

No injuries have been reported.

However, two residents of the building were displaced as a result of the incident, Morin adds.

Images from the incident do not show flames or major damage to the building, but Morin says 36 firefighters were on scene.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.

MacDonald Street and West 6th Avenue remain closed as crews are still on scene.

“We will be here for about another hour,” Morin said around 6:20 p.m.
