High-profile murder of Vancouver woman remains unsolved 17 years on

The BC RCMP is reappealing to the public for information about the death of a Vancouver woman, nearly 17 years after her body was discovered in Pacific Spirit Park.

On April 3, 2009, police converged on the busy park near UBC. Someone had found the body of a woman who had been attacked while out for a jog, blocks from her house, on a sunny morning.

That woman was 53-year-old Wendy Ladner-Beaudry, and nearly two decades later, her killer or killers have yet to be caught.

Ladner-Beaudry was a married, mother-of-two and sister of former city councillor and mayoral candidate Peter Ladner.

Police have never announced any breakthroughs in the case, suspect description, or motive.

Mounties say investigators have identified and ruled out hundreds of persons of interest.

“At this stage, the possibility that Wendy’s death was a random act of violence cannot be dismissed,” said an RCMP statement Thursday.

Supt. Bal Hansra says police continue to pursue every lead because “Wendy and her family deserve answers.”

After 17 years, Ladner-Beaudry’s brother, Peter Ladner, says the family has moved forward, but will “never be able to leave behind Wendy’s loving imprint” on their lives.

She is remembered as “a trusted sister, a loving mother, a strong wife, a cheerful aunt, a dear friend, a dedicated mentor or a smiling neighbour.”

Anyone who has not yet spoke to the police about Ladner-Beadry’s death or may have information to share — no matter how small — is urged to contact the RCMP at 778-290-5291 or 1-877-543-4822.

“We believe someone out there still holds information that could help move this case forward,” said Hansra.
