The district adds that it was a student who called the police, who arrived shortly after.

Upon arrival, officers tried to locate the suspect, but the person of interest was no longer on school grounds.

“We believe this is an isolated incident between a group of people at the school,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver.

“Parents and staff may see some police presence at the school for the remainder of the day.”

Soon after the lockdown was lifted, the school resumed operations.

Officers say that an investigation has been launched, which is now in its early stages.

The district says that the school is cooperating with police on identifying the suspect.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the police at 604-525-5411.

The threats to the New Westminster Secondary School were not the only ones made on Monday against schools in the Lower Mainland.

Four schools in Abbotsford also received threats, which resulted in temporary lockdowns around 9 a.m.

The AbbyPD, similar to its counterpart in New Westminster, did not identify any threats and lifted the shelter-in-place shortly after.
