Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect in an attempted child abduction on July 22.

“At approximately 5:30 p.m., Abbotsford Police patrol officers responded to the apartment complex located at 33538 Marshall Rd. for an attempted child abduction,” said Sgt. Paul Walker, media relations officer for AbbyPD.

“Early indications suggest that two young girls under the age of 10 were out playing in the common space of the front courtyard of their apartment complex, when an unknown man, believed to be in his 50s, entered the parking lot and attempted to lure the children into his vehicle.”

AbbyPD are now releasing a sketch of the suspect in hopes that a witness will know who the man is. 

“Major Crime investigators are appealing to the community that might have been around the Marshall and McAllen Rd. intersections on the evening of July 22nd around 5:30 PM. Specifically, anyone that had entered the parking lot at 33538 Marshall Rd. that is adjacent to a retail and commercial complex,” said Walker. 

AbbyPD say that a lot of people come through the area along Marshall Road who may have dash cam footage of the incident. 

“Anyone with information, dash camera footage, or who saw anything suspicious, we’re encouraging you to please reach out to police.”

“Our teams are currently reviewing video, doing a canvass in the area and are interviewing witnesses are critical,” said Walker

Police say they understand the effect these kinds of incidents can have on the community and are working on the investigation thoroughly. 

“We are working as diligently as we can to advance this investigation, hold the person accountable for their actions, but we really need the community.”
