The RCMP says it took them less than 10 minutes to arrest a suspect after an alleged robbery at a business in Burnaby last week.

Mounties say they were called to a business near Lougheed Highway and Sperling Avenue around 7:20 a.m. on July 17.

“The victim provided a detailed description of the suspect, who fled the area on foot and then bike before police arrival,” the Burnaby RCMP said in a news release.

Officers say they caught up to the suspect just west of Kensington Avenue nine minutes later.

However, the arrest didn’t go smoothly.

“The suspect refused to obey police commands, and a short foot chase ensued,” the news release said.

“While fleeing, the suspect was taken into custody on a soft pitch of grass beside Lougheed Hwy. Police were able to recover all stolen items and the suspect’s kit.”

Police say the suspect, a 40-year-old Burnaby man, could potentially be charged with robbery, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of probation.
