City staff say they have received an application to rezone at 948 Howe St. to allow for the 62.4-metre-high skinny tower with 408 sleeping units. The tower would be called the Nano Hotel.
The public feedback period is open until May 19 and can be done online at shapeyourcity.ca.
Vancouver staff would like to know how you think the hotel would affect the neighbourhood, whether it suits the city’s goals and priorities, and any concerns you might have about the development.
The pod rooms would be about the size of a single bed with luggage storage under the bed, according to a proposal from Unison Architecture.
Pod guests would share washrooms and showers on each floor.
Pod hotels — which were first built in Japan and designed for an affordable one-person stay — are becoming popular around the world.
Richmond and Whistler have pod hotels: Richmond’s Panda Pod Hotel opened in 2019, and Whistler’s Pangea Pod costs as little as $49 a night.
