Regional officials say the alert was issued because of the potential danger to life and health from the rapidly spreading blaze.
They’re asking that all residents in this area have a plan to transport family members or co-workers outside of the area if the alert is upgraded to an evacuation order.
The wildfire, which broke out Monday, is now estimated to be more than 18 square kilometres, up from 13 earlier in the day, the B.C. Wildfire Service said in an update Wednesday afternoon.
Wildfire officials describe it as a highly vigorous surface fire that is expected to spread given strong winds, high temperatures and dry conditions from an extended drought.

Residents are being asked to prepare grab-and-go bags for each member of the household to keep essential items readily available for a quick departure. Pack clothing, ready-to-eat food, toiletries, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers and keepsakes.
Groundcrews and heavy equipment are working to establish guards and secure water delivery, the wildfire service said. Air-tankers, skimmers and helicopters are helping slow the spread using retardant and dropping water to cool the fire and reduce fire behaviour.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
