She says there are more than 40 participating sites this year — including seven new locations.
“There’s the Alexandra District energy utility location, which is a rare kind of behind the scenes look at the city’s geothermal energy system that feeds that entire neighborhood,” said Nachareun.
Other new sites this year include Branscombe House and the Richmond Potters’ Club.
Branscombe House was recently restored.
“Located in Steveston, it’s like an old Edwardian style structure and it’s kind of big representation of one of the earliest settler homes built in the area and it’s pretty significant for its residential and commercial association with Steveston.”
One of the highlights every year is the “Sacred Spaces” tour.
“There’s like the Buddhist temple that you can go into. And then there’s also the one of the mosques there that you can go in and see some of the cultural practices and get a little bit more information on the belief system and maybe eat a bit of food and enjoy some music there as well.”
Doors Open Richmond runs June 6 and 7.
