Surrey Police Board issues statement on recent actions

The Surrey Police Board has issued a statement that states their top priority remains to be public safety while the board goes through a transition.

In the statement, the board states that they have “full confidence in the leadership, staff, and frontline officers of the Surrey Police Service.”

They reiterate that day-to-day operations of the Surrey Police Service (SPS) remain as usual, with no interruptions.

The board is now focused on recruiting a new Chief Constable, including bringing on an executive search firm to assist the process.

They will continue to plan the ongoing police transition with provincial, municipal, SPS, and RCMP partners.

Starting the 2027 budgeting process with SPS, including consultation with the public and the City of Surrey as the funding partner.

Working with the Surrey Police Union, Surrey Police Inspectors Association, and CUPE 402 to come to agreement on the renewal of their expired collective agreements.

In order to continue these activities, the board has elected Perm Jawanda as the next chair of the board.

Jawanda is a senior executive and board director with over 30 years of experience in strategic leadership, governance, and navigating complex, multi-partner environments.
