North Vancouver RCMP said Iraj Mozaffari is facing 10 charges in total, including three counts of sexual interference of a person under 16, two of touching a young person for a sexual purpose and five of sexual assault.
The investigation began on Dec. 22, 2024, when police received multiple reports that children had allegedly been sexually assaulted while playing for a local volleyball team.
The “extensive investigation” involved interviews with several witnesses and the players and a report was submitted to the B.C. Prosecution Service for consideration of charges.
The charges against Mozaffari were laid on Thursday in relation to alleged offences between January 2016 and December 2024.
There are publication bans on the identities of those who made the allegations.
Mozaffari’s LinkedIn profile says he has been the owner and head coach at Toop O Toor Volleyball Club since 2016. Before that, he ran a coaching academy in Tehran, Iran, and was the national under-19 coach for both Mexico and Iran.
“We understand that this news may be upsetting for members of the community and especially for the victims,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, and he thanked those who came forward.
“Without their courage, we would not be in the position we are in today.”
He encouraged anyone who needs help to reach out to RCMP victim services.
“For some, hearing about this may bring on memories of past trauma. If you are a victim, please reach out for support,” said Sahak.
The unit can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 604-969-7540.
“We want you to know we are here, we will listen and we will support you,” said Sahak.
