A 19-year-old man is facing weapons-related charges after allegedly causing a disturbance in Vancouver’s Granville entertainment district early Wednesday morning, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

Police say the incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. when the suspect began knocking over tables at a store and then produced a knife.

When an employee attempted to intervene, the man allegedly began stabbing the store’s sign.

The employee contacted police, who say officers located a man matching the suspect’s description about two blocks away. He was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators say a knife was found in the suspect’s possession.

The man has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
