In what has become a familiar story over the last three months, another MLA has left the BC Conservative caucus to sit as an Independent.

Áʼa:líya Warbus, MLA for Chilliwack-Cultus Lake, announced her plans on social media Monday, making her the seventh MLA to jump ship since the election of Kerry-Lynne Findlay as party leader in May.

And like those who left before her, Warbus directly cites Findlay’s leadership as a key reason for stepping away.

“In today’s uncertain times, we need steady leadership more than ever,” she said in her post.

Warbus says the party needs someone to bring people together, something she says is not happening.

“The decisions of this leader, or lack thereof, along with the parade of people that have already come and gone in the span of three short months, strike a serious chord that everyone should pay close attention to,” she said.

“It is not just sitting MLAs that have walked away, but critical and talented members of our riding associations and staff that we rely on.”

Last week, Abbotsford South MLA Bruce Banman announced his departure from the party, saying he has heard from many constituents that they feel the party is unelectable with Findlay at the helm.

In addition to Banman and Warbus, the MLAs who have departed the BC Conservative Party since Findlay was elected leader are Teresa Wat (MLA for Richmond-Bridgeport), Brennan Day (Courtenay-Comox), Peter Milobar (Kamloops Central), Ian Paton (Delta South), and Rosalyn Bird (Prince George-Valemount).
