A Squamish hiker who was missing for several days in the mountains above the Sea-to-Sky Gondola has been found alive.

Stanislav Volo set out to hike the Mount Habrich Loop on Aug. 30 but did not return home, prompting a large-scale search effort.

Squamish Search and Rescue confirmed that Volo walked out with rescuers on Friday afternoon after days in the backcountry.

In a social media post, Volo’s sister said the family had not yet seen him but was on its way to meet him at the hospital.

CCTV footage from the Sea-to-Sky Gondola showed Volo at the site around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 before he began his hike.

After he was reported missing, search-and-rescue volunteers searched the area through the day and into the early morning hours. The operation involved drones, helicopters, police dogs, and volunteers from several search-and-rescue agencies.

On Sept. 1, Volo contacted emergency services, making a 911 call to report that he was stranded on the mountain.

He was ultimately located on the Indian Arm Forest Service Road and safely reunited with rescuers.

Volo was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
