A Surrey man is facing 22 criminal charges in connection with a series of shooting investigations spanning December 2025 to August 2026.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) and the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) announced Friday that charges were approved against 37-year-old Marco Matias following separate investigations into shootings in Surrey.

Police say a home near 110 Avenue and 140 Street was targeted in three shootings in December 2025. SPOSU investigated the incidents and identified Matias as a suspect.

As a result of that investigation, the BC Prosecution Service approved 12 Criminal Code charges against Matias on Aug. 24, including:

• Three counts of reckless discharge of a firearm;
• Three counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;
• Three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; and
• Three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to an order.

Matias is also facing charges in connection with a separate shooting that occurred on Aug. 12.

SPS officers were called to a residence near 60 Avenue and 177 Street after reports that two people had been shot at. One person was injured, while the suspect fled before officers arrived.

Following that investigation, the BC Prosecution Service approved an additional 10 charges against Matias, including:

• Two counts of discharging a firearm;
• One count of aggravated assault;
• Two counts of carrying, using or threatening to use a weapon or imitation weapon;
• One count of possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm;
• One count of possessing a prohibited, restricted or non-restricted firearm while not holding a licence;
• One count of possessing a prohibited, restricted or non-restricted firearm without a licence;
• One count of possessing a firearm with an altered, defaced or removed serial number; and
• One count of possessing a firearm while prohibited from doing so.

Matias remains in custody pending a bail hearing. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Sept. 16.
