Well-being check escalates into barricaded person incident in Delta

A well-being check in Delta on Friday afternoon escalated into a barricaded person incident that prompted a response from the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Delta police were called to a residence in the 7000 block of Nicholson Road, behind Scottsdale Mall, at approximately 2:25 p.m. to check on the well-being of an individual.

According to police, the situation changed after officers arrived and the person barricaded themselves inside the residence.

Additional police resources, including the Lower Mainland ERT, were called in to help safely resolve the incident.

As a precaution, Nicholson Road was closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic between 70th Avenue and 72nd Avenue while officers dealt with the situation.

The individual was taken into police custody at around 5 p.m.

Police said no injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
