Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) will soon add five new fire vehicles to its fleet, with all of them being built in Ontario.

VFRS announced that Dependable Emergency Vehicles was selected to supply the new apparatus. The department said supporting Canadian industry was one of several factors considered during the procurement process.

“In the middle of a tariff war with the U.S., keeping this contract in Canada isn’t just good news, it’s the right call. Canadian steel, Canadian workers, Canadian jobs, building the trucks that protect Canadian communities,” VFRS said in a social media post.

The department added that the decision was based on a number of considerations, including cost, quality, delivery timelines, operational requirements, long‑term value, and service support.

VFRS did not specify when the new vehicles are expected to enter service.
