Two men were caught driving across the new Crosscut Bridge in North Vancouver on Sept. 17, apparently for social media pictures.

Around 9 p.m., RCMP responded to the bridge where both drivers were issued tickets for driving without due care, failing to obey restricted access and tinted windows. 

The bridge, which goes over Highway 1 and opened to the public in August, is only for pedestrians and cyclists.

The two men in their 20s received fines of around $600. 

The men said they were trying to recreate photos they had already seen online of their cars and the highway underneath.

A spokesperson for the City of North Vancouver said there was no damage to the new bridge. 

They also said additional measures had been taken to prevent further incidents of cars accessing the bridge. Concrete barriers have now been temporarily placed until new bollards arrive.

RCMP say the two cars gained access through a cycle-only lane.
