A woman is dead and a man was taken to hospital in critical condition after a pickup truck was hit by a train in Maple Ridge Wednesday afternoon, police say.

The RCMP says emergency crews were called to the area of Lougheed Highway and River Road around 2 p.m. after the vehicle was hit. BC Emergency Health Services pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The train operator is cooperating, Mounties say.

CPCK confirms the incident is under investigation and says the train moved from the area Wednesday evening.

No other injuries have been reported.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is investigating, police say.
