The Keremeos RCMP are seeking witnesses in a single-car crash that happened late Tuesday night (Oct. 6), leaving one girl dead.

Around 11:30 p.m., police say they were called to an area of River Road and Bridge Street after a car drove off the street and into the Similkameen River.

Search and Rescue helped emergency responders rescue all the passengers from the car. Everyone in the car was injured and transported to hospital for treatment. 

One of the passengers, a 17-year-old girl from Cawston, died at hospital.

RCMP say that although the investigation is still in the early stages, alcohol is suspected to be a factor. 

A criminal investigation is ongoing. 

“Investigators are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the events leading up to it, or who has relevant video footage, to contact police,” said S/Sgt. Dan Pollock Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen RCMP.
