The Delta Police Department (DPD) says one of two people taken to hospital after a pickup truck collided with four pedestrians during a Truth and Reconciliation walk at Tsawwassen Mills Sept. 30 has died.
The DPD says 64-year-old Gwenyth Brigit Dwyn’s death brings the total number of people who died as a result of the tragic incident to three. A memorial for the other two who died, First Nation Elder Barb Joe and Elder Virginia Splockton, was set up at the location of the collision. A fourth person who was taken to hospital is now recovering at home.
Police say the investigation into the incident continues. While they initially announced it appeared the driver of the truck had experienced a “medical incident,” Delta Police say they have not reached any final conclusions regarding the cause.
“The possibility that the driver experienced a medical event prior to the collisions remains under investigation,” the DPD said.
“Based on the evidence reviewed to date, investigators have not identified evidence indicating that the collision was targeted or ideologically motivated.”
However, police say that if further evidence establishes criminality, potential charges will be forwarded to Crown Counsel for assessment.

“This work includes examining the movements of the involved vehicle on the Tsawwassen Mills property before the pedestrians were struck, including an earlier collision,” police say.
Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley says police understand the community has questions and want answers about what occurred.
“Our responsibility is to ensure those answers are based on a complete and objective examination of the evidence. Investigators are working through a significant amount of information, and it is important that we not reach conclusions before that work is complete.”
Anyone with further information who has not spoken to police is asked to call the DPD at 604-946-4411 and refer to file 26-18401.
