A report of an alleged road rage incident in South Vancouver on Tuesday has resulted in an arrest with several charges laid against a man.
Around noon, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) were called to the area of Fraser Street and East 45th Avenue.
A woman was driving and slowed down for a speed bump, resulting in a man driving behind her to start tailgating her.
Police say that the man passed the victim on the left, stopped in front of her and approached her window.
The victim alleges that the man produced a black gun and pointed it at her before driving away.
The VPD’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and surveillance officers found the suspect’s car parked near Knight Street and East 57th Avenue. They say a man, who fit the suspects description, was seen walking away from the car and discarding an object in the west lane of Knight Street.
The man then returned to his car and drove away. ERT was able to stop him a block later and arrest him.
Investigators found a BB gun in the area where the man was seen leaving an object.
Officers arrested 45-year-old Rahat Arshad Ali and he has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence.
Ali remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
