Man arrested after punching taxi driver and damaging cars: VPD

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) say that they have arrested a man after an assault on a taxi driver and damage to cars Thursday evening.

Around 7:30 p.m., VPD were called about a man damaging a car’s side mirror near Butler Street and East 46th Avenue. The suspect left the area before police arrived.

A call around 8 p.m. informed police of an assault at Tyne Street and East 47th Avenue.

The description of the suspect was similar to the first call.

The assault victim, a taxi driver, told VPD that the suspect had approached his taxi and when he refused to give him a ride, the suspect punched the driver in the neck. The suspect then punched the taxi car several times.

The victim waited and watched the suspect until officers arrested him.

Police arrested Brent David Hasman, 50, and took him to jail.

Hasman has been charged with assault and mischief.
