Mounties in Coquitlam investigating after home invasion

An alleged home invasion near Nadina Drive and Chilko Drive on Friday is now under investigation by the Coquitlam RCMP.

Mounties say an elderly man woke up to find a stranger in his home and “was physically assaulted and forcibly confined.”

“The suspect then allegedly stole the victim’s cell phone, credit cards and vehicle,” Sgt. Adriana O’Malle said.

“Once the victim was able to free himself, he reported the incident to the police.”

Police add that the suspect also stole the victim’s vehicle, a green 2022 Hyundai Kona with BC Licence Plate AWE311.

Early investigation results, launched by the Coquitlam RCMP Investigative Support Team, seem to indicate the suspect was in contact with a neighbour earlier in the day.

“During that interaction, the suspect indicated he was a tradesperson and was asking about the victim and his residence,” O’Malle explained.

Additionally, investigators say the suspect was allegedly wearing police-related clothing.

“We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately,” O’Malle added.

Police describe the suspect as standing tall at 5’10 to 5”11 and weighing about 250 pounds.

He was allegedly wearing black rimmed glasses, a dark baseball hat with the words RCMP and logo on the front, a lanyard around the neck with an emblem or badge, a white collared golf shirt, blue and white running shoes, and tan leather gloves.
