Crews will begin filming on Wednesday.
Mayor Sharie Minions says that no additional work was done to the town before filming crews arrived.
“We continued on the path that we were on, and we have really tried to highlight Port Alberni, who we really are, the good and the challenges, and we are so excited that it was just announced that we won and we will be in Season 1 of Hometown Takeover Canada,” she told 1130 NewsRadio.
Thousands of towns competed to be featured on the show over its various seasons, including the recent Canadian edition.
The mayor looks forward to the positive aftermath of the event.
“Tourism that comes with it of just getting the opportunity to highlight your community on an international scale. I think that is really the opportunity that we probably can’t even fully understand yet, but we are just so extremely thrilled,” she said.

“Port Alberni is an amazing community. We have a great story to tell, and this is just going to be an awesome opportunity for us to highlight that with the world.”
She adds that the selection is the reward of a longer-term effort to highlight the city’s history and how it is renewing its downtown and waterfront.
“They go in and really renovate a community, and so they renovate residential homes, businesses, people who have been really leaders and change-makers in the community. They also update community parks and public spaces. So, it feels like they really make a huge impact.”
The Show streams on HGTV, a Rogers-owned channel.
