The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says a woman has died after being hit by a vehicle while walking across the street at a marked crosswalk.
The 45-year-old was crossing Main Street at National Avenue just after midnight Sunday when an SUV travelling southbound hit her, police say.
She was thrown approximately 30 metres, according to the VPD.
“The victim suffered significant injuries and resuscitation measures were performed, but she was pronounced dead at the scene just before 1 a.m. on Sunday,” police said.
“The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. Alcohol and substance use are not believed to be factors in the incident.”
Last week, a seven-year-old girl was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in the Grandview-Woodland area of East Vancouver. Police say she suffered minor injuries and has since been released from hospital.
The latest incident is under investigation.
