Man arrested after alleged hate-motivated assault in Langley: police

The RCMP says a man has been arrested and charged after an alleged hate-motivated assault in Langley City’s Douglas Park last week.

At around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 20, police say they received a report from multiple witnesses who said a woman and two children had been assaulted.

“It is alleged that the accused assaulted the mother and her two children and uttered racial slurs,” the Langley RCMP said.

“The suspect fled prior to police arrival.”

Mounties say they arrested a man matching the suspect description the next day. On Oct. 22, 23-year-old Braden Perozny of Langley was charged with three counts of assault and three counts of committing an offence motivated by hatred.

“This was a deeply concerning incident, and our thoughts are with the woman and her family as they continue to receive support from Langley RCMP Victim Services,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak.

“We appreciate the members of the public who came forward to assist and provide information to investigators.”

Perozny remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing, police say.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 and refer to file 26-33588.
