In a written statement, Cpl. Mike Kalanj confirms that the crash involved a cyclist.

“This person has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries,” he said.

The BC Emergency Health Services says that it responded with one ambulance, providing “medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital in serious condition.”

Officers are currently on scene, rerouting westbound traffic on Barnett Highway at Reed Point Way.

The Port Moody Police Department is assisting in the road closure.

Police add that eastbound lanes are open but may be affected when the evening traffic increases.

“My suggestion to anyone that uses Barnett Highway westbound is to avoid it altogether,” Kalanj told 1130 News Radio.

“We are not sure what time we will be opening it. It could be an hour from now; it could be into the late evening.”

He also suggests eastbound travellers use alternative routes.

The Burnaby RCMP has launched an investigation into the crash.
