Motorcyclist displays dangerous moves resulting in $1,700 of fines: BC Highway Patrol

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says it has tracked down a Surrey man who was displaying dangerous moves on his motorcycle when he was caught on a dashcam by another driver.

The motorcyclist was riding on Highway 1 near 176th Street on July 3 when he was recorded weaving in and out of traffic and travelling at an excessive speed, says BCHP.

The dashcam caught the driver, the motorcycle, and the license plate of the incident.

According to BCHP, it took only four days to track down the rider.

“When the video quality is high-quality, and we have a witness ready to testify in court, we can and do follow up with over-the-top driving violations,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BCHP.

“It’s not hard to imagine how the speed and unsafe driving behaviour in this video could have easily led to the motorcyclist’s death.”

The 23-year-old has been given $1,769 in tickets, says BCHP.

“We understand how much bad driving not only makes our highways unacceptably unsafe, it also annoys safe drivers,” said McLaughlin. “We’re enforcing these laws to improve people’s behaviour by delivering real consequences.”
