Man dies after police shooting at shopping centre in North Vancouver

British Columbia’s police watchdog says officers in Metro Vancouver shot and killed a man after he tried to get into a police vehicle and there was a confrontation.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating the shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon at a shopping centre.

RCMP say officers responded after receiving reports about a man with an edged weapon threatening the public inside a business.

The man then allegedly went outside and got into a vehicle and crashed into several parked vehicles, before police found him at a gas station at the mall.

Police say the man tried to get into an unoccupied police vehicle during an ensuing confrontation, leading to officers to deploy a conducted energy weapon and fire shots.

The man later died at hospital, while no officers were hurt.

The watchdog agency says it’s seeking witnesses and those with video footage of the shooting.
