The City of Vancouver is moving forward in its exploration of a Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise.

The City has confirmed that it has partnered with The Show Vancouver Bid Corporation (TSV) and entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Vancouver’s bid for an MLB team through expansion started in April when council began a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) process to find a “qualified proponent.”

Through the RFEOI process, TSV submitted their proposal. 

“The submission was evaluated against the qualification criteria established in the RFEOI, including financial capacity, relevant expertise, governance structure and the proposed approach to pursuing an MLB expansion franchise,” stated the release from the City of Vancouver. 

The MOU between the City and TSV will guide the process as they explore ballpark sites and TSV develops a potential expansion bid. 

“TSV will be responsible for all costs and financial risks associated with preparing and advancing its MLB bid,” read the statement.

Despite the MOU, there have been no decisions made yet regarding the acquisition of an MLB franchise, a location for a ballpark or any other developments. 

“Any future project agreements, site selection, land use decisions, development approvals, lease arrangements or other related matters would be subject to future Council consideration and approval,” read the statement.
