Emergency crews responded to Cultus Lake on Thursday afternoon following reports of a possible drowning near Entrance Bay.
Chilliwack RCMP said they were called to the area at approximately 1:12 p.m. after receiving reports of a missing man who had been on an inflatable boat before disappearing in the water.
First responders launched a search of the area where the man was last seen.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., the man was located in the water near Entrance Bay and pulled ashore. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, including CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.
“This is a tragic incident that no one intends to happen when they spend a day enjoying the water,” said Cpl. Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.
“Our condolences go out to the man’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
No further information has been released. The BC Coroners Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
