The cause of the fire is believed to be lightning.
“At this time, we are in communication with emergency management partners and will continue to monitor the wildfire and any potential impacts to our community. As more information becomes available, we will provide updates through our official communication channels,” said a release from the District of Lillooet.
The Lillooet Fire Department put out a release that stated they were aware of the Riley Cree wildfire and that the BC Wildfire Service is aware and responding.

“Airtankers did respond to this wildfire and while unable to action due to steep terrain and the location, they assisted in the initial assessment of the incident,” stated a release from BC Wildfire Service.
“The fire is currently burning Rank 3, meaning a moderately vigorous surface fire with occasional candling of trees along the fire perimeter.”
“This is a high elevation fire, burning high up in the mountains in steep and challenging terrain.”
Most of the fire growth is along the western flank, burning up into snow and rocks, says BC Wildfire Service.
