A man with outstanding warrants was arrested last night after allegedly assaulting two tourists in town for the Bruno Mars concert, police say.
Two Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers were patrolling around 11 p.m. near Abbott and West Cordova streets when they saw an altercation between the suspect and two people.
Police moved in immediately and handcuffed the suspect.
The victims, from Calgary, were walking back from the concert when the suspect allegedly punched the male victim in the arm with what police believe was glass. The female victim was forced into a light pole in the struggle.
The male victim had a cut to his left forearm, which BC Emergency Health Services treated at the scene.
Derek Dale Driscoll, 34, has been charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. He was also wanted on two outstanding warrants – one in relation to an alleged breach of probation order and one for failing to attend court.
Driscoll is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
