British Columbia’s provincial state of emergency has ended, even as wildfire risk remains high in many parts of the province.

The state of emergency was initially declared on Aug. 8 and officially expired Thursday.

Despite lifting the declaration, the province is reminding residents to stay prepared for potential wildfire activity and remain aware of any evacuation alerts or evacuation orders in their areas.

Provincial officials said none of the emergency powers available under the declaration were ultimately required during the period it was in effect.

The end of the provincial state of emergency does not affect any existing evacuation orders, evacuation alerts, or local states of emergency that remain in place across B.C.
