Prince George RCMP are investigating after after early‑morning gunfire in the College Heights neighbourhood.

Police say witnesses reported hearing five or six gunshots around 5:30 a.m. on Friday in the area of St. Barbara Place and St. Anne Avenue.

According to investigators, witnesses also saw a white SUV leaving the area at high speed shortly after the shots were heard.

“We have confirmed there was gun fire in the area, and our investigators are working to determine the full circumstances of the event,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper in a statement.

Police have not said whether the gunfire and the fleeing vehicle are related, but investigators are examining the possibility.

RCMP are asking residents in nearby blocks to review surveillance footage and dash-cam footage from around the time of the incident for anything suspicious.
