Two men have been convicted in connection with a double homicide outside a Whistler hotel in 2022, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Tuesday.

Shortly after noon on July 24, 2022, the Sea-to-Sky Whistler RCMP received reports of two men being shot at a hotel on Sundial Crescent, IHIT says.

One of the victims died at the scene, police say. The other victim was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Mounties say they then apprehended several people and found a burning vehicle on Ptarmigan Place near Blueberry Drive. Police say the vehicle had been involved in the shooting.

The victims were identified as 28-year-old Meninder Dhaliwal, 28, and Satindera Gill, 36.

According to investigators, the shooting was targeted and gang-related.

The next day, Gursimran Sahota and Tanvir Khakh were charged with first-degree murder, IHIT says. Both have been in custody since their arrests.

According to IHIT, on Sept. 25, 2026, a jury found both of these men guilty of first-degree murder in relation to the killing of Dhaliwal. The jury also found Sahota guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Gill. The judge directed that Khakh be acquitted of Gill’s death.

“A conviction for first-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence, with a mandatory order that Mr. Sahota will have no eligibility for parole for 25 years,” IHIT said in a news release Tuesday.

“The conviction for second-degree murder of Mr. Gill also attracts a life sentence; the jury recommended that Mr. Sahota serve 20 years prior to being eligible to apply for parole.”

The release says a sentencing hearing will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
