Surrey man previously charged in attempted abduction now charged with possession of child pornography

A man who had been arrested in Surrey and charged in connection with an attempted child abduction in June has now been charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials (CSAEM), according to the Surrey Police Service (SPS).

On June 13, 22-year-old Liam Robert Dobbs-Morency was arrested after he had allegedly approached a child playing in a driveway and physically picked him up, SPS Sgt. Ali Gailus told CityNews at the time. Police were called to the area, located near 136A Street and 81 Avenue, after bystanders witnessed the incident and detained the man. He was arrested and charged with one count of abduction of a person under 14 years of age and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, Gailus said.

After the arrest, the SPS began an investigation following reports that Dobbs-Morency possessed CSAEM.

He was arrested Oct. 19 and charged with one count of possession of CSAEM.

Police say he has remained in custody since his initial arrest in June.
