Impaired man drives himself to police station, gets vehicle impounded, AbbyPD says

An impaired man drove himself directly to the police station early Sunday where he was issued a roadside prohibition and had his vehicle impounded, the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) says.

Police say the 42-year-old arrived at AbbyPD Headquarters on Justice Way around 2 a.m. to report a cellphone he had lost in an Uber earlier in the evening.

“While at the station, one of our patrol officers observed the man’s truck being driven on the sidewalk within the AbbyPD parking lot,” police said on social media.

“The officer approached the driver after he exited the vehicle and immediately noted signs of alcohol impairment. The officer’s suspicions were confirmed when the man failed a roadside screening test.”

The man received a 90-day driving prohibition, police say.

AbbyPD has issued a reminder to always plan ahead and arrange a safe ride home, and never get behind the wheel while impaired.
