Maple Ridge Fire & Rescue said early Saturday afternoon it was on the scene of a smouldering brush fire, working alongside BC Wildfire Service crews.
The blaze is located at the top of the Rock Ridge area along the interface of the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest, Maple Ridge Fire Chief David Samson tells CityNews.
“The fire, which was first reported at approximately 6:30 p.m. on May 22, is estimated at approximately 1.5 hectares and is located in extremely steep and challenging terrain,” Samson said.
“Approximately 25 personnel worked through the evening and overnight to contain the fire.”

As of Saturday afternoon, fire activity had slowed down and was contained, according to Samson.
“The expectation is for the fire to reach ‘Held’ status by the end of the day, meaning it is not anticipated to spread beyond current boundaries under existing conditions,” he said.
“Crews continue to assess trees and surrounding hazards in the area while maintaining suppression operations.”
Conditions were stable overnight, and weather conditions worked in their favour, he says
The blaze is not expected to spread.
“At this time, the wildfire does not pose a threat to structures, critical infrastructure, or public safety. There have been no reported injuries to members of the public or firefighters.
“
Images show large plumes of smoke rising from a forested area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Samson says.
Crews ask the public to avoid the area.
