Chainsaw-wielding man in West End arrested and charged: VPD

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) reported that a 67-year-old-man has been arrested and charged after wielding a chainsaw at people in the West End.

Around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, a man was heard yelling obscenities near Davie Street and Denman Street.

The man was near a coffee shop when he allegedly turned on the electric chainsaw he had been wielding and started to walk towards people, police say.

No one was injured in the incident, according to the VPD.

Bystanders called 911 and the man was arrested within three minutes of receiving the call, according to police.

The man was found at Beach Avenue and Burnaby Street.

He has been charged with one count of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
